The business of colors
We live in a world of ideas, passions and dreams. Taught at an early age that we could be whoever we want to be – astronauts, musicians, scientists, pilots, actors and the list goes on, we live in a world designed by visions and illusions. But what does it take to mold a thought into an idea and then to convert it into a story of success. Especially if photography is your passion and working as a photographer is your dream. I had a passion, a passion to capture moments that I felt special. It was my hobby but the fact is you never know until you know your limits. In my case the first goal I had was get my works published. I published my first article accompanied by a photograph that I had clicked. Yes, double whammy. What I believe is that it matters how we communicate our vision and then translate it into obtainable goals.

Many dreams fall off because they are just dreams. Your dream is your business. Mind your business and know your business. That means that your dreams are driven into the next stage. Even if you want to abandon your vision and get out of the mess, you need to have an escape plan. This is the main reason why there are many photographers around the world who invest in a camera and yet haven’t made it beyond their facebook page. Knowing your business and core competencies lets you understand what you are and how to steer forward. I am not one of the greatest photographers ever but I know how to meet the requirements of my clients and publish what I click. I can boast of a career record of zero client fallouts. That keeps my dream going. Photography as a dream is tough but photography as a business is tougher.

If you need to translate photography into a business, then you need to understand the basic fact that the business of a business is to find solutions. Business has a target and a purpose. The main reason why many of the photographers fall out of business is not due to change in technology or due to the advent of mobile phone cameras, but due to the lack of respect towards business or reluctance to stay ahead of the learning curve or due to lack of business ethics despite making their investment. It is good to make money, but it is great to make a steady flow of income. If you find a way to mold your passion for photography into a solution there you got a business model.

Two little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned, but the second mouse, he struggled so hard that
he eventually churned that cream into butter and he walked out.
